A Quebec product, this hop comes from the Double LL farm in St-Édouard-de-Lotbinière.

This high-yielding alpha-acid variety was bred in 1980 at the research center in Hüll, Germany, and is known for its extremely large and heavy cones. The Magnum produces good yields and, like many Hüll varieties, the Hallertauer Magnum has a high tolerance to disease. Magnum quickly became the benchmark hop for bittering.
