The Columbus, as well as the Tomahawk and Zeus hops are part of a group so genetically identical that they have been grouped under the acronym CTZ, to become one. Columbus, or CTZ, hops have a high level of alpha acids, which can make it a highly valued bittering hop for its neutral bitterness. It develops some citrus and grapefruit flavors when used late in the boil and can be very resinous and oily (dank) if used in large quantities.
