Wakatu was first marketed as "Hallertau Aroma" in 1988. It then received its current name in 2011.
This hop is very versatile with its strong aromas of fresh citrus fruits, even zest and its reasonable bittering power. The Wakatu is a triploid with 2/3 Hallertau Mittlefrüh in its genetics.
